Weekly Club Coaching
Weekly club training sessions at King George Oval will commence Tuesday 8th October 2019
Training does not cater for the Tots, U6s & U7s.
Each Tuesday there will be a combined warm up and running drills session followed by coaching in two different events for U8 to U17s from 4.30-6pm.
Training on Thursdays, 4:45-6pm, is open to athletes in the U12 to U17 age groups only. At these sessions athletes choose one event to concentrate on. The events offered will be posted in the News section of the homepage each week.
Coaches for this season:
Cath Chatterton - Middle Distance. Cath is an Australian Masters Triathlon team member who has been very successful on the road winning the Canberra Half Marathon. As a keen runner she understands how to build a young middle distance runner.
Richard Chen - Throws & Jumps. Coaching across all event groups, Richard has a passion for skill development and technique to assist all athletes.
Peter Farmer - Throws. Two time Olympian and Commonwealth Games medalist in Hammer Throw winning Gold in 1978 and Bronze in 1974. Peter has coached internationally, holding positions as National Throws Coach in Norway and National Coach of Mexico. Peter has also coached at the AIS during a 30 year coaching career.
Mike Harris - High Jump. Mike is a high jumper with a 2.16m PB and has coached State and National medalists over a 15 year coaching career. Mike holds a Lv.3 Advanced Event Group Coach (Jumps) accreditation
Max Grishenkov - Long Jump & Triple Jump. Max has a Triple Jump PB of 15.31m attained during Russion Championships. He has coached in Australia for the past 11 years and holds a Lv.3 Advanced Event Group Coach (Jumps) accreditation
David Murphy - Sprints, Hurdles & Relays. A former Australian u19 110m & 400m hurdles champion, David has coached athletes to State & National medals over the past eight years and holds a Lv.3 Advanced Event Group (Sprint, Hurdles & Relay) accreditation
Mel Murphy - Racewalking. Over the past 4 years Mel has coached junior athletes to State titles and National medals in both track walking and road walking events
Sunday morning training will again be available for those athletes who are representing the Club at either the State Relays, Zone, Regional or State Championships. Times and dates will be posted during the season.
LANSW rules only allow the use of starting blocks by athletes in the U11 age group and older. Athletes will need to have been signed off by a Club Coach before they are permitted to use Blocks during Saturday morning competition. Dates will be given where competence to use blocks will be assessed.
